Common Questions & Answers
Q. What are lash extensions?
A. Lash extensions are a luxury beauty service where semi permanent synthetic lashes are applied individually to your natural lashes with a specially formulated glue.
Lash extensions are not applied to the skin. They are applied to each natural lash.
Q. Why do I need to get fills?
A. There are three reasons you need to fill your lashes. One is because your natural lashes grow out flipping the extensions. Two your lashes fall out naturally (taking the extension) and regrow. Three the adhesive breaks down and the lash extensions fall off. Anyone of these can be the cause of you losing your lash extensions and it is natural and normal.
Q. What should I do if I have an allergic reaction to the adhesive?
A. If a reaction does occur(depending on the severity), you may want to ask your lash artist to remove the extensions. Another option is to ask your lash artist to try a sensitive glue, however, there is no guarantee you will not have another reaction and sensitive glues are known to create a less strong bond causing quicker fallout. If the reaction is extreme, please seek medical attention, as your lash artist is not licensed to give medical advice.
Q. Are allergic reactions common?
A. Reactions are not too common, but they do happen, and it is possible to gradually acquire an intolerance for the adhesive.
Q. Which style/mapping of Lash Extensions will look good with my eyes?
A. The answer depends on your eye shape and lashes. Generally speaking; Cat-eye(the most comment style/mapping) makes your eyes look wider, or more almond shaped and Open Eye makes your eyes look more open/larger. Don’t be afraid to try something new, you might just love it!
Q. What length of lashes should I get?
A. The length of your natural lashes will greatly effect the maximum length of extensions you want to apply to them. Too long and they will fall out faster. Consider that everyones eyes are set different so what looks like a 14mm extension on your friend may not look the same as a 14mm lash extension on you. A tip: if you wear glasses and don’t want your new extensions to brush them as you blink, don’t go longer than a 12mm lash.
Q. What is the difference between the classic and wet style set options?
A. Classic is a single extension applied to one natural lash. These are perfect for adding length and curl, but if you are wanting a bit more fullness, the wet set may be a good fit for you. It adds more fullness without it appearing “fake” or overwhelming.
Q. How do I care for my lashes after my appointment?
A. Wash them once a day with a lash extension safe cleanser(Aftercare kits are available at the studio!). This helps avoid possible build up and blepharitis (Never heard of it? Look it up it’s a real thing). Avoid anything oil based as it will break down the adhesive. Also avoid heat, most lashes are synthetic and will lose curl or even become singed when exposed to excessive heat even for a second, like opening the oven. You receive an aftercare card at your lash appointment that will have all this info and more!
Q. Can I wear makeup with my extensions?
A. Yes, you can wear regular eye makeup like eyeshadow and foundation. However, avoid eyeliner and mascara as it is oil based and will cause premature fallout of your extensions. Do not put mascara on your extensions. If you do, your artist will not do a fill in, you will need a removal and a full set will be applied.
Q. Can I swim in my lash extensions?
A. Yes, however salt water and chlorine will slowly begin to break down the adhesive. The best way to avoid this is to wash your lashes directly after swimming, preferably with a lash cleanser but if not just rinse them off with clean water.
Q. I slept on my lashes now they are laying funny what can I do?
A. Try to sleep on your back to avoid damaging the extensions. But if it does happen, wash them, while wet gently brush through them them use your blow dryer on the cold setting to dry them while you continue to brush them upwards and in the correct direction.
Q. What can I do to make my lashes stay longer?
A. The best tip is to stop touching them, the oils in your fingers can break down the adhesive, not to mention that you are probably pulling some off on your own. The less you mess with them the better off you’ll be. Next, follow the proper aftercare instructions, this includes cleansing them properly.
Q. When do I need to get a fill in on my extensions?
A. Fill ins are typically every 2-3 weeks. At your fill appointment, I suggest having a minimum of 50% of your extensions. Anything less and you risk not receiving a complete fill in. Fill appointments are only 1 hour 30 minutes (full sets are 2 hours 30 minutes). I recommend booking your fill appointments ahead of time to secure your spot.
